So I found myself wondering something tonight. The subject is pregnancies in Next Gen
Lopoddity-verse and to a smaller extent,
Kilala-verse. Usually this is a rather plain and placid subject but with Lopoddity, not a chance. For those that have read her work, you know what I mean, but for those that haven't, I shall explain. Lopoddity has several characters that have children. These couples are a few female-male but are mostly comprised of female-female and even male-male. For this, I should clarify that I shall be using the Asari definition of titles, the mother shall refer to the one that carried, the father the one that donated. I need to specify this.
Now, it isn't the same gender parents that is the focus, rather the question of 'how' they are parents. Prime example is Magnolia May. Magnolia is the daughter of Apple Jack, you can tell by her coat color with AJ as her mother if I am not mistaken. Here's the catch. Her 'father' is Rarity. Magnolia has a sliding mane color scheme from blond to violet. I might be able to accept that Discord just turned Rarity into a male for a time but there is more. Pony named Wave Rider, daughter of Aerostorm and Bruce, both males. In this pair, the father was Stormy and 'mother' Bruce. This also happens with birds! Henrietta, Pandora's pet chicken, and Bruce's sea hawk, Pearlie. Both are female, and Pandora did not
just make it happen. Another example of same sex parents is Celestia and Chrysalis, the daughter being Iridescence. This is a bit of an awkward one to analyze as it all depends on who the mother was and the 'father' and even then it is difficult. Had Celestia been the mother, then Chrysalis could have changed into a male, maybe? I'm not even sure if that would work beyond appearance. But there is also the fact that Iridescence was born a larva, which would be more likely if Chrysalis as she wouldn't even have been born, she would have hatched from an egg.
The first natural conclusion though is 'Hey, this is a world of magical ponies, this stuff happens'. I would agree except, like I said, Henrietta's eggs were not magic-ed. Following along that thought though is that, in this world of magic, there isn't actually pregnancies. Rather, the parents donate some of their traits and magic to create a new life from the two of them. Also not acceptable. There are pictures of two pregnant ponies, Trixie Lulamoon and Sweetie Belle. I shall mention Sweetie's foal soon. Trixie's son, Moon Dancer, is the son of Blueblood. Now the second could still be accepted with pregnancies if males had the proper reproductive organ to carry with.
Which brings me to my next conclusion, in Lopoddity-verse, ponies are actually hermaphrodites, born with both organs. But this is contradicted by Sweetie Belle's filly, Prima Donna, born a colt named Bel Canto. Hermaphrodites' gender would be decided by personality rather than birth yet when Prima decided she would rather be a filly, Sweetie said that she didn't understand everything but she would learn. If foals are anything like human children, they will decide they like or hate something several or even dozens of times until it finally settles. This would imply that they also do this with gender identification. So Sweetie not knowing removes them being hermaphrodites.
The final conclusion I can come to is just gender identification. Lopoddity doesn't mention that Pandora or anypony changed Prima Donna to full female so it is likely that the change didn't happen and Prima just cross-dresses. This could imply that there are actually far more circumstances of this happening than we realize, with even a member of the Mane Six doing this. It would certainly add everything together, even Bel Canto being somewhat ashamed could be explained because he simply didn't know. Everything comes together...except Henrietta and Pearlie.
This next one is far simpler. In Kilala-Verse, the character Dove is the daughter of Trixie Lulamoon and Starlight Glimmer, with Trixie as the mother of this pair. This is actually so easy to answer, two powerful mages decide to have a daughter, it is quite possible that they didn't even have to change one of their genders to male, they just magic-ed Trixie pregnant with their foal. Though this does bring up the interesting question of how they decided whom would carry.
I reiterate that in this subject, I used the Asari definition for mother and father, the mother carried, the father donated. I shall also once again say I have no problems with same gender parents, I have seen nothing that truly says there a detriment or positive of having one or the other. This has been a matter of observations about the Next Gen Lopoddity-verse. And yes, I do realize that I probably put too much thought into what equates as magic pony fanfiction.
